World's two highest mountain ranges Great Himalayas and the Karakoram bound Ladakh, a moonscape land - a rugged and arid high altitude desert, it crosses two others, Zanskar and the Ladakh ranges.
Expedition to Mt. Stok Kangri (6153 Mts.) is a combination of high altitude trekking and a possible ascent to summit the mountain. Acclimatization is required in Leh- The capital of Ladakh, on arrival from Delhi. We will be spending couple of days visiting popular monasteries of Hemis, Thiksey, Shey, Phyang, Spitok and Stok Palace.
For acclimatization to even higher altitudes, which is necessary to attempt a mountain- as high as 6153 Mts. We shall be trekking for several days in varied altitude and we will be crossing passes as high as 5000 Mts.
A feast of scenic and ethnic diversity, the Stok Kangri Expedition is one of the Ladakh's classic Expedition, a rugged high-altitude hiking on Stok range. Begin this expedition at the famous trailhead at Hemis Monastery. Along the way we pass prayer flags rippling silently in the fresh wind, and walk into small green valleys, greeted by cheery herders.
We cross three passes including Kongmaru La (5150 Mts.), higher than two others' to reach the Stok Kangri massif in the Zanskar Mountains south of Leh. Among its known peaks, Stok Kangri (6153 Mts.) is the highest; it offers a spectacular perspective to the central expense of the Indus Valley, which it dominates. Other peaks in the area include Gulap Kangri (5900 Mts.), Matho west (5950 Mts.).
Many un-named peaks in the altitude range of 5500 Mts. and 6400 Mts. makes the great amphitheater of this trek. We end our expedition at the village of Stok.
