Trek to Nepal’s northern frontier with Tibet to experience the mystique of the fabled Kingdom of Mustang - yes there is still a King of Mustang! Closed to all foreigners since Nepal crushed the Khampa revolt against the communist Chinese in the early 1970s it has been reopened to a limited number of trekkers only recently. Here we find fascinating villages, Buddhist monasteries and medieval forts set amidst a scenery of the high Himalaya and Tibetan Plateau.
Flying from Pokhara up the Kali Gandaki valley we land at Jomsom - the gate way to Mustang. From here we start our 10-day loop visiting Lo Manthang, the walled capital of Mustang and the famous cave temples at Luri, along with many monasteries and villages.
Day 1 : Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara. Camp.
Day 2 : Fly Pokhara to Jomsom. Trek to Kagbeni. Camp.
Day 3 : Trek to Tsaile. Camp.
Day 4 : Trek to Tamagyang. Camp.
Day 5 : Trek to Trakmar. Camp.
Day 6 : Trek to Lo Manthang. Camp.
Day 7 : Day of exploration at Lo Manthang. Camp.
Day 8 : Trek to Yara. Camp.
Day 9 : Visit Luri Gompa and trek to Dri. Camp.
Day 10 : Trek by way of Charang to Gammi. Camp.
Day 11 : Trek to Samar. Camp.
Day 12 : Trek to Kagbeni. Camp.
Day 13 : Trek to Jomsom. Camp.
Day 14 : Fly Jomsom to Pokhara. |
