About Kovalam beach
Kovalam situated 10 kilometres south of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. Kovalam is an internationally renowned destination and home to some of the most exotic beaches on the southern western tip of the Indian peninsula. Since its discovery the place has been counted as a popular hangout zone for the domestic and foreign tourists in India. The beaches that lies stretched out here are discontinuous and often in strings. These beached, shaped like crescent are main hotspots in the town. The town as well as the beach has derived its name from the Tamil word 'Kovalam' meaning coconut groves. Truly, the whole area has resplendent coconut vegetation and the ones lining up the beach are quite remarkable. The beach land also sees numerous food joints and ayurveda centres that have been growing in number over years.
Tourist Attractions in Kovalam

Kovalam Beaches
Kovalam looks a tropical paradise with a sheltered natural bay, the azure blue waters and the sumptuous spread of green palm groves. The sands on the Kovalam beaches are partially black in colour due to the presence of ilmenite and thorazite. Kovalam consists of three successive crescent beaches, separated by a high cliff. The most popular among these is southern beach called as the Lighthouse Beach. The middle beach is called Hawah, while the northern most beach is Samudra.
Padmanabhapuram Palace
This majestic old palace is 63kms from Thiruvananthapuram. It is situated at Thucklai, on the way to Kanyakumari. This palace was once the capital of the State of Travancore. The palace is built in the Travancore architectural style. This is famous for its 17th and 18th century murals, carved mahogany ceiling, colored mica windows, secret underground passages, inner courtyards, durbal hall, museum, four poster medicinal bed, Belgian mirror, pictures of Lord Krishna, granite dance halls and special black shiny floors which are made from a unique combination of egg white, jaggery, lime, burnt coconut, charcoal and river sand.

Alappuzha Beach
Alappuzha Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Kerala. It is formed by the shores of the Arabian Sea. The beach is located in the beautiful district of Alappuzha. The Alappuzha district is also known for its backwaters and is home to a variety of flora and fauna. Due to its proximity to the sea, the town has always enjoyed a unique place in the maritime history of Kerala. The Kuttanad region also comes under this district, which is known as rice bowl of Kerala. It is one of the few places in world, where rice farming is done below the sea level. The Alappuzha beach is also known as Alleppey beach. The pier, which extends into the sea here, is around 140 years old.
Krishnapuram Palace
The 18th century Krishnapuram Palace built during the reign of the Travancore monarch, Marthanda Varma, is a double storied structure which displays typical characteristics of Kerala architecture-gabled roofs, dormar windows, narrow corridors. It houses one of the largest mural paintings in Kerala called the Gajendra Moksham. It measures14 feet by 11 feet and is at the western end of the ground floor, a walking distance from the Palace Pool. Inside is also a museum of antique sculptures, paintings and bronzes. Situated 47 kms from Alappuzha on the way to Kollam, Krishnapuram is easily accessible by bus from either town.
Alleppey Backwaters
Alleppey backwaters beckons all the tourists from across the glode who are desirous to get drunk on backwaters. Kerala is dotted with several backwaters destinations but no other destination is as beautiful as Alleppey backwaters. A houseboat cruise on the backwaters of Alleppey heightens the emotion of happiness. The backwaters flanked by coconut palm trees and enveloped in the aroma of the lush green vegetation bring you close to nature.
